Fall weather is a perfect time to get outside and enjoy some free events in the Greater Akron area. Cool weather turns kids thoughts to pumpkins, cider, colorful leaves and Halloween! The First Tee of Greater Akron and Mud Run Golf Course and Driving Range have partnered together to celebrate Fall and Halloween with two FREE events. Both will be held at Mud Run Golf Course, 2000 South Hawkins Avenue in Akron, off Vernon Odom Boulevard.

On Saturday, October 27 at 10:00 am The First Tee of Greater Akron will host a free Candy Dash. The event, held at Mud Run Golf Course and Driving Range, centers around family, fun and the 9 Core Values taught in First Tee classes through the game of golf. Kids will “dash” to 9 stations to collect treats and prizes. Youth are encouraged to dress in Halloween costumes and participate in the best costume contest with prizes for both male and female best costume. Local companies have sponsored each station making the event free for all kids. The stations are named after the First Tee core values of honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy and judgment. First Tee is a national non-profit that mentors youth through the game of golf. Classes are offered at Mud Run, Brandywine and the Cleveland Clinic Challenge Course.

The second event, Family Tee Time, is an event offered by Mud Run Golf Course that encourages adults and kids to play golf together. A pair can play a 9-hole round of golf with a cart and enjoy a hotdog lunch after their round, all free. Family Tee Time is designed for local youth to spend time outside playing golf while also enjoying nature and disconnecting from technology. Call for a tee time at 330-375-2728.

Mud Run Golf Course is a local 9-hole golf course owned by the City of Akron, designed to encourage youth to make healthy choices and instill life-enhancing values all through golf. Volunteers are always welcome to help with the First Tee classes that will start up again in Spring 2019. Check www.thefirstteeakron.org for volunteer details. 2019 First Tee class schedule will be posted in late 2018.
