The First Tee of Greater Akron (TFTGA) was proud to partner with the Greater East Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and participate in this year’s The Longest Day fundraising event, which takes place annually on the summer solstice. TFTGA sold purple golf balls with the Alzheimer’s Association logo on them at Mud Run Golf Course for $3 each, and donated the proceeds to the Alzheimer’s Association. A total of $205 was raised.
Held during Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, The Longest Day is a sunrise-to- sunset initiative started by the Alzheimer’s Association to honor the strength and endurance of those living with the disease and their caregivers. The event is all about love. Volunteers were encouraged to do something that they love to do, or take part in an activity to honor a loved one who was affected by Alzheimer’s. Area events included a spin class, ice cream social, and carnival. Volunteers registered online alone or as a team with a fee of $20 per person, and then set up fundraising pages to collect donations for the Association. Partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association gave TFTGA a chance to further its outreach and impact in the community.
